It had been QUITE a while since I painted anything and I was feeling anxious and rusty. Painting birds is one of my favorite things, but I wasn't ready to dive in just yet and paint a full bird.
About a month ago, I was outside the front of the house with Simon and found not one, but two red-tailed hawk feathers ― a beautiful gift!
I thought these would be the perfect first subject to welcome me back into the creative flow. I used the ‘wet on wet' watercolor technique to give a softness to the markings and two Daniel Smith colors: Burnt Umber with some Mayan Dark Blue.
